It is also worth using middleware to facilitate integration between systems, as well as striving for the greatest possible standardization of technology and communication protocols used in the company. It must also be remembered that automation can turn an organization’s operations upside down, and its members will have to learn how to work with systems anew, which may cause understandable resistance. To this end, it is worth clearly and detailedly communicating the goals and benefits of automation from the beginning, as well as involving employees in the process—the more they are involved, the better the later results can be. However, it can be safely assumed that the more complex the operation and the more resources it requires, the longer its automation will take. This can be considered through three examples:- Simple processes like responding to customer inquiries can be automated in a few weeks—based on this example, it is enough to create a chatbot containing a database of frequently asked questions and answers to them.
- Processes like supply chain management may require several months for full automation. This is due to a higher level of complexity—in this case, one must include, among other things, inventory management, a delivery tracking system, or integration with the production department.
- Complex operations such as automating a production line can take a year or even longer. This happens because in this process we are dealing with a whole mass of variables and dependencies—mapping them alone can take several weeks.
