About the Role

The Azure DevOps Engineering team is responsible for managing the engineering capability for the Microsoft Azure Platform. The team builds highly resilient, scalable, reusable, and performant Azure cloud capabilities in an automated and efficient manner, supporting the public cloud strategy. Reporting to the Azure Engineering Lead, the role involves collaboration across the Azure Cloud Services team, Microsoft, and Cyber Security to ensure secure-by-design and compliant engineering capabilities.

Tasks
  • Deliver engineering capabilities for an Azure WAF (Web Application Firewall) uplift and enhancement program.
  • Build and manage the Azure platform to enable application deployments.
  • Engineer solutions using Infrastructure-as-Code methods (e.g., Terraform).
  • Execute the functional pattern lifecycle process, including design, documentation, development, and maintenance of the code library.
  • Integrate, configure, deploy, and manage centrally provided common cloud services (e.g., IAM, networking, monitoring, Operating systems, Containers).
  • Manage Azure connectivity and networking, including Express Route, DNS, IP allocation, traffic routing, NSGs, and Azure Firewall.
  • Ensure compliance with Operational risk standards (e.g., Network, Firewall, OS, Logging, Monitoring, Availability, Resiliency).
  • Build and support continuous integration (CI), continuous delivery (CD), and continuous testing activities.
  • Implement patches provided centrally and update support and operational documentation as required.
  • Troubleshoot and support Applications teams, maintaining and advancing deep technical skills and knowledge.
  • Gather requirements and facilitate feedback loops between Cyber Security and the wider Azure Cloud Services team.
  • Provide day-to-day troubleshooting and support of Azure tenant/infrastructure.
Requirements

Requirements

  • Strong experience in Azure WAF enablement engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud network security concepts and engineering.
  • Experience in engineering and deploying IaaS and PaaS services in Azure.
  • Deep understanding of DevOps principles and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts.
  • Proficiency in implementing CI/CD pipelines on Azure DevOps or GitHub.
  • Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks, with knowledge of Microsoft Sentinel or Defender.
  • Operational effectiveness in delivering solutions that adhere to approved design patterns and security standards.
  • Skills in ARM, Powershell, Terraform, and Ansible.
  • Proven experience in coordinating multiple support groups.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex information to varied audiences.

Essential Skills

  • Technical knowledge and experience in deploying Azure technology services (Identity, Networking, Compute, Storage, Web, Containers, Databases).
  • Demonstrable experience in Azure WAF engineering.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipeline implementation across multiple technology stacks.
  • Experience with high-availability web infrastructure, such as web proxies and reverse proxies.
  • Knowledge of risk management principles.

Desirable Skills

  • Industry-recognized cloud certifications, with multi-cloud experience in Azure and GCP/AWS.
  • Programming experience in PowerShell, Terraform, Python, Windows command prompt, and object-oriented languages.
  • Experience with Linux administration and scripting, preferably Red Hat.
  • Background in highly regulated industries, such as Financial Services.
