The nature of the IT industry means that the highest-paid professionals are those with the most experience. Furthermore, compensation depends on the specific specialization—the nature of the work a given professional performs. Which specialization is the most profitable in the job market? What are the future salary prospects? The answers to these and other questions can be found in this article.

Which entry-level specialists can count on the highest salaries?

It is common knowledge that in the IT industry, the lowest earnings are typically found among juniors, i.e., those with the least experience. However, it is worth noting that there are specializations that allow even juniors to earn attractive salaries. Which specialists are we talking about? Based on the Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2021 report, it can be concluded that among those with the least experience, mobile application developers and back-end developers can count on the highest salaries. Much in this case depends, of course, on the programming languages they use. Leading examples certainly include Python and Java. However, it is worth noting that for beginner programmers, money should not be the most important factor, but rather development opportunities that will allow for a quick promotion from junior to senior.

Which specialization is the most profitable in the job market?

The aforementioned Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2021 report also presents the profitability of specific specializations regardless of experience. Which programmers earn the most? The best-paid are application architects and mobile application developers, who, according to the cited report, can count on average annual earnings of around $58,000. Similar earnings are seen by full-stack developers and back-end developers, whose average annual earnings are approximately $56,000. Of course, these examples represent the median salary for a given position based on over 46,000 respondents from around the world who participated in the study. In reality, the earnings of the best and most experienced programmers are much higher, reaching well over $100,000 per year. It is also worth emphasizing that IT specializations are not limited to programmers. The highest-paid specialization is Engineering Manager, with a median salary of approximately $95,000 per year.

In which technology can the most experienced specialists receive the highest salary?

It is widely known that the earnings of IT specialists depend to a large extent not only on experience but also on knowledge of specific technologies. In which technology do the most experienced specialists earn the highest salaries? An excellent example here is the Clojure language, as the median salary for specialists using it is approximately $93,000 per year. However, it is worth noting that the respondents participating in the study have been programming in this language for an average of just under 13 years. Another example of a high-income technology is certainly Perl, as specialists using it earn an average of about $78,000 per year. In their case, however, achieving such high earnings requires over sixteen years of industry experience. Among languages enjoying much greater popularity, Python deserves special mention, as specialists using it earn an average of $61,000 per year. In this case, however, we are talking about specialists with about 9 years of experience. The high earnings of specialists using Python result from the fact that it is a versatile language used not only in building applications but also in Data Science, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence design. Not much less, with an average of $56,000 per year, are JavaScript developers who have about 10 years of experience. In this case, these are specialists primarily involved in creating websites and web applications.

What are the future salary prospects and what is worth specializing in?

People who want to work in the IT industry often wonder which specialization to choose and what their salary and development prospects will be as a result. Currently, the most promising specializations seem to be those related to mobile application development, which stems from the fact that most users access the Internet this way. Furthermore, it is also worth appreciating the potential of specializations related to cloud solutions. Specialists responsible for their creation and effective implementation will have no trouble finding interesting and well-paid employment, as many applications and tools are currently moving to the cloud. Also promising from the point of view of both development and earnings are specializations related to security and data analysis (BIG DATA). Specialists who focus on fields related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning should certainly not have problems finding work in the future. The Internet of Things also has interesting prospects, and specialists in this field are already in high demand. In summary, it should be stated that the earnings of IT specialists are largely dependent on their experience. However, it should be remembered that job market prospects and salary levels also result from a properly chosen specialization.
